A big thanks to REPREVE for sponsoring this post and encouraging us to #TurnItGreen.
Last week I introduced you to REPREVE, and my green beanie has seen lots of time outside as I shovel snow, snow and more snow. In a sea of white, it feels like wearing my beanie and recycling through an endless mound of wet gloves, mittens and hats are just about the only “green” things around.
To say that we have any pent up energy around here thanks to the Polar Vortex of 2014 would be an understatement. We’re on day 5 of school closings, and activities that felt so novel a few days ago have lost their appeal. It’s been a challenge to come up with new ideas to keep the kids moving and entertained. While they’re not excited about the impending snow melt or the harsh reality that one day they’ll actually have to go back to school, they are excited for the upcoming Winter X Games.
Since Eli was a toddler, watching the X Games have been a tradition for us. One of his first attempts to string words together was his favorite phrase: “cool tricks!” And there are always plenty of cool tricks to get his attention in the X Games. Elena enjoys them, too, and she’s especially excited to see a fellow Elena, REPREVE brand ambassador and professional snowboarder Elena Hight, take to the slopes.
The 2014 Winter X Games will take place January 23-26 in Aspen, and REPREVE is taking recycling to new heights during this year’s Games. Elena Hight will stand out from the crowd of competitors wearing a bright green Volcom jacket made with REPREVE fibers that started out as 50 recycled plastic bottles. When you watch her compete in the Women’s Superpipe, look for the fans sporting their own REPREVE green beanies. Even in a sea of white it’s easy to #TurnItGreen.
To celebrate the X Games, REPREVE is inviting you to share how you “turn it green” and live a more sustainable life by recycling or reusing materials. Through February 2, 2014, share your image or video on Twitter, Instagram or Vine, tagging it with @Repreve and using the #TurnItGreen hashtag, and you’ll be entered into a sweepstakes where you could win $5,000 or a REPREVE Jacket and a Go-Pro camera.
While we can’t be at the Winter X Games and the kids are a few years away from being eligible to compete, that doesn’t mean we can’t have our own X Games while we’re stranded at home. “Cool tricks” courtesy of Eli, video courtesy of Elena:
So tell me, how are you staying sane and keeping things green while surrounded in nothing but the white stuff?

Cute video. 😉
