I’m About to be 39 (Again)

Tomorrow begins my last year in my thirties. Yup, I’m about to be 39. Which is actually kind of like a bonus year, because I spent all of the year prior to my 38th birthday thinking I was already 38. I cannot even begin to tell you how many people I told I was 38 when I was clearly 37. I’m sure they were just baffled by my youthfulness, and wondered how I did it (beer and boy bands – that’s my secret).

But alas, I am really 39 now. There will be no great list to accomplish before I hit 40, no grand, sweeping changes to mark my journey to middle age. I’m pretty darn content with where I am. I know enough in my (new) old age to realize you don’t mess around too much with a good thing. I don’t need to tick anything off a list to make me feel okay about getting older.

I also don’t need any grand celebration on my birthday (Mike may disagree). Good sleep, friends and family, a fish taco, some ice cream, and a Colts win over the Chiefs in the first round of the NFL playoffs and I’m good to go until 40. Well, all that and maybe one more thing. But I’ll need your help. I’m stealing this idea from the lovely Casey of Moosh in Indy. I’d like a comment cake for my birthday. Here’s how it works: you leave a comment, telling me something good or sweet that happened to you last year. Then I devour each and every nice comment, only instead of them going straight to my thighs like a real cake they’ll go right to my heart.

Looking forward to your comments as much as I’m looking forward to 39 … which is actually quite a lot.

Happy birthday!!!! Let’s see…we found out Little Ordinary #6 was on the way. That was pretty awesome. πŸ™‚

I hope your next year is full of love, fun and happiness.

Happy Birthday! I love your idea for this!

We had an anonymous gift which was very special and thoughtful for our wedding- someone contacted the woman who we had hired to make our cake and cupcakes and paid for everything, including paying me back for the deposit I had put down. On top of that, a certain owner of a school paid for half our centerpieces and her son-in-law accompanied by his brother sang/played the guitar for our ceremony. So, not only was getting married amazing, but we had so many special people to share the day with and amazing, unexpected generosity. πŸ™‚

Happy Birthday!! And last year, one of my goals (I don’t do resolutions per se, but try to have a theme for the year) was to “just say yes” and open myself up to new people and experiences. Being an introvert, sometimes my fallback is to avoid such things. I made new friends and got to know a lot of people (like YOU!) better. It was a good year.

    Cheers!

Happy Birthday! What a cool idea. My good news came on NY Eve. My brother-in-law called to tell me that as a gift to my sister, he is flying me out to California to celebrate her bday at the end of January. Gift for her, but yet a gift for me too! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Something really great that happened last year is that a friendship grew from out of nowhere, with a really amazing person that moved into my neighborhood. Who knew?! πŸ˜‰ Happy birthday!

Thanks Ann-Marie. Most people use other words to describe me, but I’ll take amazing!

    Happy birthday, Angie!

I got two jobs this past year with little effort on my part. Strong recommendations and positive impressions led to little to no interview prep or stress, which was so great. (I *hate* interviews!) That’s pretty cool, right?

Also, I’m glad to be able to call you a friend for another year. Really. I adore you.

Happy Birthday! So many good things happened last year it’s hard to narrow it down.

    Let’s see…
I spent more time in real life with the people in my computer. Read some fantastic books, learned to make beer + cheese – and started running regularly.

But I already know 2014 is going to be better. Crazier, but better.

Happy Birthday, Angie!! πŸ™‚ Wow!! You are ONLY 39! You are sooo young!!! I have 2 good things from this year… Dan got a great new job and his old school blessed him many times over with their appreciation and celebration of all his years of service! My other super fun (hence good) thing was my 40th (gulp) birthday party… nothing like spending months compiling Seinfeld jokes as decorations and food labels to keep you laughing many times over!! πŸ™‚ And for the record… now that I’ve turned 40 and my friends and loved ones had their part in celebrating, I am just going back to telling people that I’m 35 (b/c after 30… who really cares about your age afterall?) Happy B-Day!!!
