Oh how I love this girl!

I was just about to head out the door for a run when Elena asked if she could come with me. We've talked about this before, when I was first getting back into running again. She said she'd like to come with me and I said sure . . . sometime we'll do that. It's a bad habit of mine, telling my children we'll do things soon. And then never quite getting around to it. So there I was, ready to throw my iPod on and go, and there she was, asking, hoping for a yes and not a maybe next time.
Today I Gave: A yes instead of a maybe later. We took off together, me on foot and Elena on her bike (I've waited so long to say yes that I'm actually running farther than Elena can feasibly run. Which for me is saying a lot). She was a pleasant distraction on my run, chatty and generally keeping me from checking my watch every 30 seconds. While I'll still enjoy a few runs by myself each week, it made me realize that having my kids come along with me every now and then would be good for all of us.
Today I Received: The most precious gift of all: sleep. Mike got up with Eli this morning (at 6:15 nonetheless!) and I stayed in bed until nearly 9. It was heavenly. Y'all know how much I love my sleep.

I need to start letting PK ride her bike with me when I run. I’m just so focused on “me time”, that I forget that she might easily ride with me…

I was pleasantly surprised. I had a bad feeling it was going to be like the scene I witnessed on the trail the other day between a runner and her dog: run for 30 seconds, stop for dog to pee, run for 30 seconds, stop for dog to sniff, run for 30 seconds, stop for dog to pee . . . and so on. She did stop once, but I'm not ashamed – I was glad for the break!
