It was day two of my girl's trip to the beach. Day two of doing pretty much nothing but sleeping, eating, and lolling about on the beach. Part of this lolling about included the reading of many, many magazines. I flipped the page lazily and found an article that started like this:
"If you are lucky, you are reading this while lounging in beach chair next to the ocean."
Lucky, indeed.
Lucky to have such wonderful girlfriends to share trips like this with. Lucky to have girlfriends, who come hell or high water, finagle crazy schedules, arrange sitters, rent cars and make it a priority to find one long weekend a year where we can all get together. Lucky to have girlfriends with understanding spouses, who deal with it all back home so we can escape reality for a bit. Lucky to have the most beautiful weather I have ever seen at the beach, so we could soak up every last ray of sunshine (especially important to those of us who haven't seen the sun in A Very Long Time).
It was a fabulous trip. I have a special place in my heart for the area around Seaside, Florida (otherwise known as the Beaches of South Walton). This is my third trip there in two years. And while my last trip there with the kids was less than relaxing, I still love it and would love nothing more than to go back year after year. Can you believe I've never been there with Mike? Something must be done about that.
We swam. We kayaked. Some of us saw dolphins. We napped in the sun. We got dressed up and ate a meal where no one had to fiddle with crayons or cajole a little person into eating one more bite. We had adult beverages. And we talked and talked and talked. It was fantabulous. And then, it was time to go home. We're already talking about next year.
The theme of this year's trip seemed to be: "Is this gonna be on your blog?" Well, Lisa A, Lisa B, Rebecca and Tina, here you are, on my blog. Mentioned by name! I know, you are very impressed.
If you'd like to see pictures from the trip (including some rare photos of me, thanks to Lisa A), you can find them here.
