I Made A Cucumber

I know, I know, not nearly as cool or impressive as the baby I made last summer.  But this cuke is already sleeping through the night!  Mike and I are totally flabbergasted that the garden is actually producing real, edible vegetables.  I actually found the cucumber by accident.  I was watering with the sprayer and the spray lifted up the bottom of the monstrous cherry tomato plant that produced the cute little tomatoes above.  And lo and behold there was a full-grown cucumber, just like I was nosing around the produce aisle at Kroger.  I guess I haven’t been too observant the last couple of weeks.  Mike didn’t believe me when I brought it in.  He was totally convinced that I had gone to the market and then pretended to pull this cuke out of the garden.  Seriously, I can’t even find time to pee by myself, let alone come up with elaborate cucumber schemes.  So the lettuce is done, but we now have cucumbers, carrots, cherry tomatoes, and tons of these totally cheerful zinnias.  Here’s a view of the garden as it’s looking now.  The giant thing in the back?  A mammoth sunflower Elena started from seed in her classroom last spring!

I’m not sure what’s up with the green beans.  They’re twining beautifully around the beanpoles I set up, but this is the only decent bean I see.  There are a couple more that are teeny.  I guess I’ll have to steam this one up and split it in four.
