Eli’s been crazy about bikes from the time he could walk. We have an assortment of trikes and ride-on toys at his disposal, but he’s always gravitated towards Elena’s bike. Which, of course, always ended in drama (Elena) and tears (Eli). So for his birthday in August we decided to get him a bike just his size. We decided to go with a balance bike, which is a bike without pedals, instead of a traditional bike with training wheels. The idea is to teach your kids balance and coordination (the more difficult skills) before pedaling (the easier skill). We went with a Strider running bike, since it looked more like a regular bike. And also, their website rocks.
Eli’s had his bike for a little over 2 months now and we are floored at how well he does with it. Dude flies on it! The cast slowed him down for, oh, maybe a day? He’ll even coast with both feet up for a few seconds. I love seeing the looks on people’s faces when this gimpy little guy rides by:
