I find this time in between Christmas and Valentine's Day a bit dreary. All the excitement of the holidays is over. It's time to pack up the Christmas decorations, but too early to start festooning the house in pink and red hearts (although this clearly isn't the case at Target. The day after Christmas they had all the Valentine's stuff front and center!).
This year I think I've finally found the answer to that dreariness, quite by accident. I had big plans to have paperwhites as part of my Christmas table decorations. Except in order to have paperwhites vs. a big green stalk on Christmas day, one must start them early. Like before Thanksgiving. Well, it just didn't happen, so no paperwhites for Christmas. Instead, they bloomed just the other day.
They are the perfect thing for this quiet that comes after Christmas. Small, pretty, crisp and clean. They smell amazing, but it's the kind of thing where you don't notice it and then out of nowhere it catches you.
Finally, my procrastination pays off.
