I'm going on two road trips this weekend, one real and one virtual. You can join me on the virtual one: on Saturdays on your PBS station they have a new series, Spain . . . on the road again. Every week it highlights a different area of Spain as you ride along on a road trip with Mario Batali, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Bittman and Claudia Bassols. I'm loving the show because:
It reminds me of my Spanish roots. My mom is from Spain and virtually that whole side of my family resides there.
It's about food. And I love food.
I heart Gwyneth Paltrow. I always loved her, and then she had to go and marry Chris Martin, the lead singer of my favorite band (Coldplay). And then she was perfect. I'd love to kick back over some caracoles and sangria with her and chat about kids and Spain and her hot husband.
I could listen to Claudia and her accent til the cows come home.
After watching a couple of episodes I've decided it's high time I become fluent again so that when we go in 2 or 3 years I can hang with everyone AND I can go to some sort of cooking school while we're there.
As for my real road trip, I'm headed to Cincinnati tomorrow with my friend Erin. We have big plans: IKEA, nap, dinner in a restaurant that is not appropriate for children, sleep, leisurely breakfast, and Jungle Jim's (Six acres of food under one roof! A playground for food lovers!). And then back to reality, where at least I will still have my virtual road trip on Tivo.
Happy Fall Weekend, ya'll.
