I couldn’t figure out how to put text and video together, hence the two seperate posts.
Elena had her first ever violin recital a few weeks ago. She played "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "Seminole Chant." While we think she did awesome, I couldn’t help but think of one of my favorite lines from Ferris Bueller. Remember when he’s playing the clarinet? "Never had one lesson!" And a big shout out to my mom, who sat through nearly 2 1/2 hours of other people’s children. If that’s not love I don’t know what is.
Eli’s been pretty busy with his hands, too. He figured out he actually has hands, and that by some miracle these things called hands seem to be attached to his body. At first he would just hold one hand out in careful observation. Now he’s into wringing his hands, like he’s very worried and very, very late for something. My other favorite new thing he does happens almost every day in the car. We’ve had these little bug toys that you’re supposed to attach to the car seat handle. I put them there on something like day 3 of his existence. He couldn’t give a crap about them and they kept getting in the way, so one day I just velcroed them onto the passenger ceiling handle thingamajig above him. So the other day I’m on my way to get Elena at school, and I spy him making googly-eyes and big smiles back there. Finally, the bugs! Every day at some point during our commute now, he’ll look up and it’s like he’s never seen them before. So here’s my guy, just hanging out on the couch this morning:
