Elena and I are in Chico’s, shopping for a gift for my mother. We’d been there a while back and Elena was admiring the jewelry. I promised her I’d bring her back closer to abuela’s birthday so she could pick out something herself. She picked up one necklace that was pretty gaudy. I was politely trying to discourage her from that one.
Me: Gee, Elena, I don’t know. That doesn’t really seem like Abuela’s style.
Elena: What do you mean, momma?
Me: You know, it doesn’t seem like something she would choose for herself to wear.
Elena: Oh, you mean it’s not her old lady style.
Ouch. Sorry mom! And Happy Birthday 🙂
