I love this onesie. It was given to us by Mike’s boss at Sunbelt. I think Eli’s pondering what it means exactly, this stud muffin thing. I will say that as much as I love this outfit, explaining the term to Elena was a real treat. Now she’s taken to calling a certain boy at school stud muffin.
That leads me to the next topic: "Reasons Why Elena’s Teachers Will Be Voting Me Mother Of The Year." It’s a topic sure to be chock full of dandies this year. In addition to her treating her fellow male students as pieces of meat (see above), we have this gem. See, I always let Elena pick out what she’d like to wear to school. I don’t care how awful it looks. In fact, the worse the better, that way her teachers can see how I’m doing such a wonderful job fostering independence. Last Monday she chose a bright orange shirt from summer camp, paired with a lovely floral print pant (not a speck of orange or anything in the orange family in the pants), and black patent leather boots. Her hair was a vision, as I was able to get about 3/4 of the way through brushing it before Eli began screaming. So I took the part I didn’t comb and threw it in some half-assed attempt at a little ponytail. And then I sent her out the door with Grandpa.
Fast forward to the afternoon. We’re in the car together, having a nice chat while I feel Eli before we go shopping for Abuela’s birthday present.
Me: How did your friends like your shirt? Did you tell them about how much fun you had at camp?
Elena: Oh yeah. They liked it. The man who took my picture said he used to go there when he was little.
Me: Excuse me, did you say something about a picture?
Elena: Yeah, the picture man was there today.
Me: Like, he took a picture of you by yourself, and then a picture of your class?
Elena: Yeah, that’s it!
Yes, that’s my kid. The one every mother will look at and say, "Good God, did she forget it was picture day or does her kid always look like that?" Yes, and yes. I distinctly remember going to several different stores to acquire the perfect picture day outfit last year. Ahhhh, how everything changes.
I will leave you with some personal stats on Eli. He had his 1 month check-up last week and weighed in at a whopping 12 lbs 12 oz. He’s also 23 1/2 in. long now. For a point of reference, I checked Elena’s baby book to see how they compare. Yeah, at 4 months Elena weighed 12 lbs 6 oz. And she started off bigger than him. Pictures of fat rolls coming soon.
