A big thanks to REPREVE for sponsoring this post and encouraging us to #TurnItGreen.
As we were sifting through Elena’s ginormous Christmas list, one particular item was a mystery to me: the beanie. For some reason I was envisioning a beret, and I couldn’t figure out why she wanted one. Elena is a lot of things, but a beret-wearer she is not. Mike and I hit the mall one evening and we kept arguing over what, exactly, makes a hat a beanie. Well, the argument was resolved when I was confronted with an entire wall of beanies in one store with tiny clothes and really loud music. This is a beanie:
Sure, it’s on a dog, but you get the idea. It’s basically a knit hat that hangs a little slouchy-like off the back of your head. You can get them in any shade of the rainbow, and in a seemingly infinite variety of knits, but what if you could satisfy your beanie needs AND do your part to practice sustainable, green living?
Six recycled bottles on Mrs. Six’s head!
You can if you wear an eco-friendly beanie made from REPREVE. You see, products made with REPREVE fibers, like my fabulous beanie, once started out as plastic bottles. Each REPREVE green beanie is made from 6 recycled plastic bottles. Did you know that less than one-third of all plastic bottles in the US are recycled? REPREVE’s mission is to get the word out that recycling plastic bottles is not only important, but a cool way to turn waste into some really useful (and fun) products. Some of your favorite products are made from REPREVE fibers, like Blue Avocado reusable bags, The North Face Denali jackets, Haggar dress pants, and my favorite new socks – the Sustain line from Swiftwick.
In a few weeks I’ll be sharing how the kids and I support the #TurnItGreen movement, but in the meantime I wanted to introduce you to REPREVE. And while I’m at it, I thought it would be fun to spread the beanie love. While REPREVE gave me my very own beanie to keep my pretty little head warm in these God-forsaken Indiana winters, I also have another REPREVE beanie to give away. All you need to do to enter is visit the REPREVE website, check out the variety of products made with REPREVE, and then leave a comment below telling me your favorite (or most surprising) REPREVE product.
Good luck and have a happy, green New Year!
Giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, January 6, 2014. One winner will be randomly chosen from the comments to win a REPREVE beanie. Winner will be notified via email and have 48 hours to respond before a new winner is chosen.

Wow, what a versatile product. It is even used on car seats? That’s awesome. Though I think I’d have to side with jeans made out of recycled fiber!

Cute hat!! It was news to me that fabric for people clothes could be made from recycled bottles. Back in the early 90s, my parents got carpet made from something similar- it wore great for 20+ years. What will they think of next??
