Updated 6/11/13: I have one VIP ticket to Fishers on Tap to giveaway to a lucky reader! Read through the post for details on how to enter.
For the first 14 years of my legal drinking life (you do the math … I’m no spring chicken), I lumped beer into two categories: drinkable beer and scary beer. Drinkable beer was anything you would find at a fraternity party, or Rolling Rock if I was feeling fancy. Scary beer was everything else. I found unknown beers scary thanks to a too-early introduction to Guinness. I was sure that any beer not brewed and delivered by Clydesdales was dark, bitter and not drinkable.
As I grew older and learned to appreciate local foods and small batch producers, I really wanted to know more about craft beer. It was still scary to me though. I felt foolish asking, and I wasn’t brave enough to order something unknown in case I hated it. And then I learned about Girls Pint Out, an organization of women who gather together with a shared interest in craft beer. I went to my first event and finally found a safe place to learn about craft beer where no question was stupid. I learned so much – from why I like the beers I do, how to broaden my tasting horizons and find new favorites, and most importantly, how lucky we are in Indiana to have so many talented craft brewers.
On Saturday, June 15, you’ll find me tasting old favorites and discovering new brews at Fishers on Tap. Fifteen Indiana breweries will be pouring samples at the Fishers Municipal Amphitheater in Fishers, Indiana. Along with great local beer, ticket holders can also enjoy bites from local food trucks as well as live music. The best part? While you’re treating yourself, you’re also helping out the community. All the proceeds from the event go right back into the Fishers and Hamilton County community thanks to the host, Fishers Rotary Club. For over 20 years the Fishers Rotary Club has been active in the community: mentoring youth, sponsoring scholarships, providing assistance for victims of domestic abuse, supporting food pantries, and much more.
If you’re a craft beer hopstar, you’ll love this event. And if, like me just a few years ago, you don’t know your pale ale from your pilsner? You’ll love it, too. One ticket will get you samples from all over Indiana, so you’ll never have to be scared to order something new again.
Tickets to Fishers on Tap are available online. VIP tickets, which are limited to 200 and get you in from 4-5 p.m., are $60. In addition to the benefit of early admission, VIP tickets include food pairings from local restaurants. General admission tickets are $40. These tickets are limited as well, and will get you into the event from 5-8 p.m. Designated driver tickets are available for $10.
But, hey – why not try to win a ticket while you’re at it? I have one VIP ticket to giveaway (valued at $60)! All you need to do to enter is leave a comment telling me which brewery you’re most looking forward to visiting at the event. You can earn an additional entry by tweeting about the giveaway, just make sure to leave a comment telling me you did so in order for it to count. This is a quick giveaway, so enter right away! Giveaway ends Wednesday, June 12 at 11:59 p.m. EST. One winner will be drawn and provided a VIP ticket via the email address given upon entering giveaway.
Thank you to the Fishers Rotary Club for organizing this awesome event and for providing me with a ticket to attend.

I am an impoverished 20-something so I don’t know if I can make it to the event, but I would love to try what Bloomington Brewing Co. has to offer.
