Every Day a Play Day

March 14, 2012 angie

Congratulations to Jessica R.! She is the winner of the $20 Polarn O. Pyret voucher.  Thanks for entering and play on!

Spring has definitely sprung here in Indiana.  For the first time this year I sent the children off to school in short sleeves and no jackets.

It’s easy to shoo the children (and yourself) out the door in weather like this: sunny, balmy, delicious.  But I would challenge us to make Every Day a Play Day, no matter what the weather.  This week the good folks at Polarn O. Pyret are celebrating Every Day a Play Day, and encouraging families to play outside every day this week.

Play outside in the summer, when creeks demand stomping.

Play outside in the fall, when the wooliest of caterpillars demand inspection.

100 Acres IMA

Play outside in the winter, when your backyard becomes a hockey rink and demands a pick-up game (just don’t lacerate your kidney, okay?).

And of course, play outside in the spring, when worms demand you pick them up.

Polarn O. Pyret wants to make it easier for families to spend time outside this spring when the conditions aren’t quite as lovely as they are here in Indiana today.  Check out their Spring Outerwear line, and snap some up while it’s up to 25% off (now through March 18).

Even 15 minutes a day outside makes a difference in everyone’s attitude, from the biggest people down to the very smallest.  No matter what the weather, there’s always something fun to do or explore.  What will you do outside this week?  Let me know and I will choose one comment at random to win a $20 voucher to Polarn O. Pyret.  Giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m Eastern on Sunday, March 18, 2012.

I try to get my kids outside every day. Their favorite thing to do outside at our house is ride their bikes in the street. They also love to visit parks and nature areas- especially if there is a river or pond there!

We make an effort to get outside every day, and I truly believe it helps our sanity. There’s a lot less to whine about outside. Our current favorite activities are swinging, running races, smacking big sticks on the pond, and tossing around a giant plastic baseball.

Here we’ve moved beyond short sleeves to short pants… it hit 80F today!! The boys have been playing outside for hours, but I’m not too sure what they play — the whole neighborhood joins in and they run in two posses (7-9 year olds in one, 3-6 year olds in the other) either taking leaps off short walls, making clubs and climbing the fort or playing super hero. They’ve needed bath/showers every night this week and the neighbors even got to sit outside with feet in buckets of water to get them cleaned up (what a smart mom! We’re doing that as soon as the sneakers/socks come off!)

So glad spring is here! Having a new baby with a toddler can be a challenge especially when cooped up all winter. It’s been beautiful outside, we have gone to the park, the beach and even the zoo!

We’ve hit the zoo this week, lots of baseball practice and randomness in the backyard. Loving this weather!

This past week outside has been a blast: climbing trees, throwing rocks down the storm drain, digging for worms, and even picking up the dog poo in the back yard. A win win for everyone;)
