Out of touch.
That seems to be the general consensus among my friends and family about the government's relationship with the daily lives and concerns of those they govern.
How would you like to be in touch?
I have an exciting event coming up that provides an opportunity for me to be in touch with our state government. Next Wednesday I'll be joining a group of Hoosier mom bloggers to meet with Lt. Governor Becky Skillman for a roundtable discussion. The topic? Whatever concerns us as Hoosier mothers, whatever weighs heavily on our minds.
It's a fantastic opportunity to be in touch and to be heard, and I'd love to include you by asking you to share what's on your mind. If you had an hour with the Lt. Governor, what would you want to discuss with her? The Lt. Governor oversees five agencies: Agriculture, Community & Rural Affairs, Energy, Housing and Tourism. Have something near and dear to your heart that pertains to those agencies? Let me know, and I'll take your concerns, questions and suggestions to the Indiana Statehouse with me.

I’m so glad you posted this. Reminds me that I should probably give this some thought before, say, on the way downtown next week.

Ha, Katy, I’m with you. I’m a bit nervous that a wild bunch of bloggers will end up on the news for egging the Statehouse. 😉 But this is definitely a good idea. Think I’ll ask on my FB fanpage.

So glad you’ll be there too! Hopefully I’ll get to talk with you more than our first meeting. (And that it won’t involve you getting sick, either.) I’ve really been enjoying reading your blog. And you were right, Blissdom was great. Wish I could have stayed for all of it.

How cool is that? I can’t wait to hear about how this goes. Good luck!

With all the good suggestions I'm getting, we're going to need more than an hour! Thanks for thinking of me for this gathering!

Nicole, I'm so glad you're going to be there! Looking forward to having an actual conversation with you. I'll do my best not to barf this time.

Thanks! I'll definitely post a follow-up about the experience.

Since the Lt. Governor is involved with housing, I’d be curious about housing for an “elderly” (since they deem 62 to be elderly)person living on a very low, fixed income. I am having trouble finding something to help my mother. It’s been difficult, and even the websites are not very helpful.

Katie, I'm sorry to hear you've been having difficulty navigating that process. I will be happy to ask the Lt. Governor about this. Thanks so much for responding.

Looking forward to seeing you, Leah! Such a cool opportunity.
