A Dreamy Halloweenie

November 1, 2008 angie

Halloween can be kind of a crap shoot.  Costume malfunctions, sugar-induced tantrums, colicky babies that don't want to cooperate, ill-timed stomach viruses, we've seen them all.  Here in Indiana we have the weather as an added unknown.  I have many memories of an otherwise beautiful costume ruined by the obligatory hat, gloves and parka.

But not this year.  We had the most fabulous, wonderful Halloween yet.  The weather was beyond fabulous.  Nary a parka or even a hooded sweatshirt in sight.  Elena chose to be Hermione Granger from Harry Potter this year.  Eli, having no choice in the matter, was a skunk.  We waited too long to take pictures, so Elena was chomping at the bit to Get The Show On The Road.  As a result we have no pictures of Elena by herself and this is the best we could get of the two kids.

Towards the end of the evening, Elena lost the cape and was just running around in her tie and button-down.  Someone pointed out that she looked like a server from TGI Fridays.  All she was missing was her "flair."

I've been around long enough to know that, baby or skunk, this is not the end you want to be on.

Some friends from school,  who just happen to also live in our neighborhood, invited us to hang out and trick-or-treat with them.  Turns out Miss Jennifer is the hostess with the mostest.  As I heard one of the kids passing by tell her, "Nice spread you've got here."

Here are Elena and her friends.  Don't you just love the ghost costume?  Straight out of Charlie Brown.

It was so fun to sit back and relax, hang out with friends, eat, and watch the great costumes go by.  We got to meet people and linger in conversation, as opposed to just throwing candy out the door with a quick "Hi!"  The kids trick-or-treated for a bit together, but they preferred running around the yard over running door-to-door.  As a result, our stash is not such a stash, but that's a good thing.

Just to prove to you that Eli really is a little stinker, here's proof that he can walk, he just chooses not to.

"Crap.  I think the Mom Lady sees me.  Hundred bucks says I'm going to Mother's Day Out after all."

Hope you had a delightful Halloween.
